I got this quaint flyer in my inbox today. And the words “first eco-friendly nursery’ struck a cord with me. Just a couple of days ago I was saying in my interview how surprised we were the eco-trend was catching on so fast in Lebanon. First the eco-totes in Supermarkets ( which without the necessary education are still considered as spacey bags, but this is another subject), then the banks, and somewhere in the middle our company’s motto…
And there you have it another addition to the eco-minded businesses.
From their website:
• We use biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning products. Ecocover all-purpose cleaner for tables, toys, floors, toilet, & sinks
• We use non-toxic art material.
• We do not believe in Microwaves.
• We recycle paper/card board and also glass, plastics and metal. The containers are provided for us from the recycling department of Sukleen.
• We only serve healthy food (high fiber is our magic health word). We have some organic food at least once or twice per week. .
• We have a No shoe –policy (no shoes are allowed in the classrooms where children sleep and play) but are allowed in the playground.
• We have AC’s and air purifiers for breathing clean air throughout the day.
• Only clean mineral water used for drinking and cooking.
• Appropriate music chosen for different activities and we will also be inviting volunteers to play an instrument for the children while playing (guitar, flute, recorder etc.) .
• Stainless steel pots and pans for cooking (no plastic polymers (Tefal) and no aluminum)
• 10 minutes Yoga for kids every morning
Still feels good to know that companies in Lebanon realize the impact of being greener on their reputation. And the added value is ( i hope) the kids will learn by example.

P.S. Why not invest in better photography? Image is the better part of PR isn’t it?

I wish to congratulate the group of educational specialists who put together this innovative initiative, and wish them all the best in implementing it. If successfully applied, this would be quite an important achievement not only for nursery education in Lebanon, but probably in the whole Arab World.
Finally, I wish to thank “Identity Chef” for bringing this up to our attention. Keep up this great “green” work

First thank you very much for being pleased that ‘someone’ ‘somewhere’ does really care about going green in Lebanon. However, as the owners of Apple Days Nursery we would just like to clarify one point only from your article.
Our nursery is ‘Eco-Healthy’ and not ‘Eco-friendly only. So when you mentioned that we do Yoga and this does not have anything to do with going green, (although frankly speaking they are both different sides of the same coin) but it does have to do with health which we also reinforce in the nursery.
Eco-Healthy is a new term coined which usually implies to those people who are intersted in a healthier and cleaner world for our children in general.
I got the impression by using the word ‘quaint’ you were implying we are using these terms for publicity reasons. Therefore, we cordialy invite you to our nursery to experience such a world.

Dear Apple Days Administration.
Thank you for taking your time & commenting on my post.
I assure you that no offense was meant by addressing your business, which on the contray grabbed my attention for its untraditional & new approach to child rearing. And though my focus at the time had to deal with the eco-friendly aspect; I did include the original flyer and text from your website mentioning the eco-healthy approach overall.Additionally, as to the mentioning fo the word ‘quaint’ what was meant was the following definition:
quaint: strange in an interesting or pleasing way; “quaint dialect words”; “quaint streets of New Orleans, that most foreign of American cities”
I wish you good luck on your efforts and please keep me updated on any new developments.
